5 Settembre 2011

Pakistan - E-mail for the liberation of Asia Bibi
Asia Noreen, better known as Asia Bibi, is a Pakistani Christian woman who has been convicted by a Pakistani court of blasphemy, receiving a death sentence by hanging. The verdict, which would need to be upheld by a superior court, has received worldwide attention. If executed, Noreen would be the first person in Pakistan to be lawfully killed for blasphemy.

E-MAIL
Object: Immediate release of Asia Noreen
Your Excellency,
I call for the immediate and unconditional release of Asia Noreen.
I ask, moreover, its engagement in the review of the norms on the blasphemy introduced in 1986 from the former president and general Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq (articles 295 B and C of the Pakistani penal code). A law that in these years has become instrument of dead and tortures for the religious minorities in Pakistan. Many innocents are condemned to death for the right to the religion and thought freedom.

Iran - Petition and letter for the liberation of Javid Houtan Kian
URGENT ACTION
Javid Houtan Kian is the lawyer who defended Sakineh Ashtiani as she fought to avoid a stoning execution under the barbaric shari’a laws of the Islamic Republic regime in Iran.
Houtan Kian supported Sakineh’s son Sajjad Ghaderzadeh in his efforts to raise international awareness about his mother’s case. The campaign, implemented jointly by the International Committees against Stoning and Execution and Mission Free Iran, and with the support of millions of people worldwide, succeeded in stopping the killing of Ms. Ashtiani, who was to have been executed by stoning in early July 2010 (sadly, due to the excruciating nature of her circumstances, Ms. Ashtiani has recently attempted suicide). The campaign to stop stoning in Iran and free Sakineh Ashtiani raised global awareness of the crimes of stoning and execution in Iran, and created a crisis of legitimacy in the international arena for the Islamic Republic regime.
On October 10, 2010, Houtan Kian, Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, and two German journalists were arrested by agents of the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence in Mr. Kian’s law offices in Tabriz, West Azerbaijan, Iran. Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, who was reported to have been brutally tortured throughout his detention, was eventually released on January 1st, 2011. The two German journalists were released to the German Foreign Ministry in apparently good health on February 20, 2011. But Houtan Kian remains in prison, having been under unspeakable torture for the duration of his detention. The International Committees against Stoning and Execution recently announced that Mr. Kian’s execution is imminent.
JAVID HOUTAN KIAN WAS SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS IN PRISON

LETTER
Object: Immediate release of Javid Houtan Kian
Your Excellency,
I wish to appeal to you on behalf of Javid Houtan Kian who is the subject of my deepest concern.
Javid Houtan Kian is the lawyer who defended Sakineh Ashtiani.
On October 10, 2010 Houtan Kian was arrested.
He has been in solitary confinement in ward 209 of Evin prison. He was transferred to the prison of Tabriz (to the ward designated for the insane and HIV-positive intravenous drug users). Have also been denied visits by a doctor because of the visible signs of torture upon his body.
I demand to immediately release Javid Houtan Kian and drop ALL charges against him.
I ask to stop the persecution of all Iranian human rights lawyers and adhere to the international human rights laws in which the Iran government is a state party..
Thank you for your attention.

Iran - Diplomatic pressure for immediately release Nasrin Sotoudeh
URGENT ACTION
Object: Diplomatic pressure for immediately release Nasrin Sotoudeh
Your Excellency,
I would like to take the opportunity to call your attention to the case of Nasrin Sotoudeh.
Nasrin Sotoudeh is a human rights lawyer in Iran. She has represented imprisoned Iranian opposition activists and politicians following the disputed June 2009 Iranian presidential elections as well as prisoners sentenced to death for crimes committed when they were minors. Sotoudeh was arrested in September 2010 on charges of spreading propaganda and conspiring to harm state security and has been imprisoned in Evin Prison. In January 2011, Iranian authorities sentenced Sotoudeh to 11 years in prison in addition to barring her from practicing law and from leaving the country for 20 years.
According to the Human Rights House of Iran, her sentenced has been reduced to 6 years in prison, and a 10 year ban from practicing law. The 20 year ban for her to leave the country has not been mentioned in the appeals court’s decision.
I demand of exert the utmost diplomatic pressure for immediately release Nasrin Sotoudeh.
Sotoudeh must to continue her work as a human rights attorney uninterrupted.
Sincerely,
(your name)
