Thank you for your e-mail of the 24 March addressed to President Von der Leyen, the contents of which have been duly noted. I was asked to reply on her behalf.

Please let me assure you that the EU attaches great importance to the migration situation at EU external borders. The EU expects the authorities of Member States at external borders to live up to their commitments with regard to the migration situation and take the necessary political decisions.

The EU funding also contributes to the provision of basic accommodation of refugees and migrants in temporary reception centres as well to the provision of water and sanitation, food and non-food items, improved access to primary and secondary health care, protection monitoring, social ohesion activities, protection and support to unaccompanied minors and children.

The EU will continue supporting Member States in building effective migration management and a functioning asylum system, respecting human rights and European and international standards. Yours sincerely,
