Thank you for your email and for your vigilance. I follow the situation in Tunisia closely, both as President of the European Parliament and as Chair of the European Parliament Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.

During my visit to Tunisia last December, I highlighted the capital role that free media must play in laying the foundation for a successful transition in the country and the creation of a genuine, stable and pluralist democracy respecting fundamental freedoms and human rights.

In this framework, I thank you for highlighting the case of the head of Ettounsiya TV Sami Fehri. I have already instructed the relevant members of my cabinet to follow the case closely and consult with the EU delegation in Tunisia to react appropriately.
